Literally had this little man in the studio for less than 30 minutes, but we got some great ones to celebrate him turning one. I can’t even handle his cuteness.
My girls know that who they are is just perfect.
Their silly, adventureous, frustrated, happy, LOUD, athletic, fierce, funny selves.
Being themselves is enough for us. And ultimately, for them, too…that’s the goal, at least.
They don’t need to have their hair done, clothes matching, or even be clean to be loved or accepted.
We love them as they are, loud, dirty, competitive…just like my parents loved me for being um, the exact same way. 🙂 I wanted this series of images to show their boldness, their strength and the beauty in them, as they are.
Strong is the new pretty.
*** Strong is the New Pretty, the book, will be published with Workman Publishing in Spring, 2017!!
From the article…
“You don’t need to be pretty, perfect or compliant to be loved.”
That is the message photographer Kate T. Parker wanted to use to empower her girls when she started taking their pictures three years ago. You won’t see any dolls or pink tutus in this heartwarming, energetic series that beautifully showcases what it means to be a girl now. Parker, a photographer based in Atlanta, Ga., turned her lens on her daughters as a way to encourage them to escape the stereotypes imposed on young girls and celebrate their strengths and interests. Parker’s message to her daughters, aged 5 and 8, is “be strong, be yourself, be honest and celebrate who you are.”
Me and my babes.
Two little girls. One with glasses. Cutest things ever. It felt very familiar to me. 🙂
Loved this session. So much love, fun and joy within this family.
Just a few exits north of where I live, in the distinctly suburban sprawl of Roswell, there is horse country. I know it as soon as I see the shopping centers replaced by signs for stables.
I love it so much. It reminds me of where I grew up. Horse fences, stables, barns, land.
I love when I am asked to come to a barn to shoot. Sophia is five and is one lucky and talented rider. She rides six days a week and can’t seem to get enough. Her mom and dad fully support this and wanted me to document it along with some of her buddies from the stable.
Such handsome boys. Loved this session!
